From the back cover

The warning was given early, and it was believed. Then the men who owned the world sold the truth back as a lie, and the world froze paying for it.

Fifty years on, Britain lies under a winter that has forgotten how to end. Arthur, an old man who never stopped believing, has walked ten years towards a place that should not exist. Rory, the boy he raised on the road, no longer believes in anything except him.

Beneath a frozen hillside they find a door with power still behind it, and beyond it an archive: the buried history of a century, and proof that the death of the world was not a failure but a choice.

Beneath the choice, something older waits to be found. Arthur means to find it. Rory means not to lose him to it.
